Text from the modeler, Bob Wening.

In the late 1940's, the Army began looking for a replacement for the aging Piper L-4
and Stinson L-5. Requirements were for a light, all metal aircraft that could perform a
wide variety of missions from short unprepared strips. Missions that the Army and Air Force
were interested in for this aricraft included reconnaissance, rescue, re-supply, aerial
telephone wire laying, artillery fire control, casualty evacuation, and forward air control.
The Bird Dog could also be operated with floats or skiis.
Thousands of O-1's were produced and used by the Army, Navy, Airforce and Marines.
This particular model is in the colors of the 73rd Aviation Company who saw action during
Vietnam. The top of the wing was painted with an orange stripe, and white flaps to help
friendly aircraft spot them from above.

Text from the panel maker, Robert M. Porter.

This zip file contains a FS98 panel designed for a Cessna O-1E Birddog or other light
aircraft with a single piston engine, fixed-landing gear and cruising speed of 90 to
120 knots. When I first started this project my intention was to design a simple and
easy to use, but fully-funcional IFR panel for my own personal use. I wasn't planning
on uploading it anywhere. I just wanted something simple to "putt around" in when I got
tired of flying larger aircraft. The more I flew and refined this panel the more I liked
it. I hope others may get some enjoyment out of it. It was not designed to be historically
correct, although I have seen several but be easy to navigate with.

All gauges are default Microsoft gauges so you have them already and there is no
reason to include them in this zip file. They are enlarged and arranged in a conventional
layout. I think the small panel bitmap and large gauge sizes give the impression of being
in a small airplane. My original intention was to put the throttle, mixture control, flap
lever and complete engine instruments on the panel but I quickly ran out of room. I
stopped trying to fit them on when I realized I used buttons on my joystick to manipulate
the those controls. If you don't have a joystick you can use the keyboard. Personally, I
don't like using a mouse to operate any controls.

I highly recommend Bob Wening's Arctic Cessna O-1E Bird Dog (file name: Bird2.zip)
for use with this panel. It's flight characteristics and texturing are wonderful.

This panel cfg and bmp are a small portion of a debt paid to
all the freeware software designers the world over who have kept me
fascinated with this hobby. It is my hope you will enjoy flying with
it.

INSTALLATION

Simply unzip the birddog.zip file in your FS98 aircraft directory. If your zip
program does not support directories, then create a directory called RCAC L-19
Bird Dog in your aircraft directory. Create the usual subdirectories: model,
panel, sound, texture under the Birddog directory. Place the .air and aircraft.cfg
files in the main RCAC L-19 Bird Dog directory. Place birddog.mdl and model.cfg
files in your model directory. Panel.cfg and bdog.bmp go to the panel directory.
Sound.cfg and .wav files to the sound directory. All .*af files go to the texture
directory.

Thanks for your support,
